My Photography

As some of you know I'm currently a full time student studying photography and I will be graduating in May of this year.  I know a few of my fellow bloggers are photographers and I thought I would post some of my current work and just get your opinions on it.

I'm still not sure what I want to do when I graduate yet.  I started out thinking I was going to be a wedding photographer, even bought a Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens which set me back quite a bit and then after buying it I got cold feet and decided I didn't want to do wedding photography anymore because of the risk of ruining someones wedding.  Taking on the job of being a wedding photographer is a big responsibility and I'm not sure its something I want to do.  Then I thought I wanted to do newborn and maternity photography and I would still like to try.  I'm shooting my niece when she's born in May and I can't wait to see how the pictures turn out.  Now I really want to do retouching of photos and I'm learning everything I can about photoshop cs5 and lightroom 3 but I'm not sure if I can find a job just doing that.  I guess everyone goes through this when they are starting a new career and I have time to figure out what I'm going to do at least.

Anyways, I'm going to post some of my pics and anyone is free to comment on them.  I always appreciate being critqued because it helps me learn what I need to change.

  1. I love the mermaid one! You are very talented - that's one of my goals for 2012 is to actually learn what my DSLR is capable of - I have a Nikon D3100. :D

  2. OMG... these are STUNNING!!! When reading your post, I wasn't sure what to expect, but girlie... these are fabulous!! Have you also thought about tapping into your local (and outlying) high school to do senior portraits? Where I live there's a huge market for that, and I my ownself spent a small fortune when it was my daughter's turn. A friend of my daughter's opened her photography business by doing something quite unique, and as far as I know, she basically just used Facebook as her launching pad. She would have a "special" each month, related to whatever "theme" is associated with the month following. January she would do Valentine pictures, February, maybe Mommy and Me, March maybe something with umbrellas, rain slickers and boots. APril would be live bunny rabbits for those with children and maybe mother's day themed shots. Etc. She would post on FB what the special would be. 25.00 sitting/appointment fee, and then her print prices were very reasonable, or for 35.00 you could have the sitting/apt fee and a CD with the photos. You could do that, and then tell the people to chose their fave shot, and for 10.00 more, you would edit the photo to their liking, i.e. blemishes, or special effects, as your skills are improved. Yay! I'm so excited for you!! And so impressed!! Please keep posting your work!
