Ever since my husband moved out I just can't stay busy enough. I get bored so easy and boredom leads to eating. My house is spotless, I have all my errands and phone calls caught up and I'm running out of things to do. When my husband still lived here I seemed to stay busier I guess because I had another person to take care of. Its just a big adjustment to get use to. It feels really good to accomplish so much but now what?
Especially on days like this when its rainy outside, I can't exercise, I can't take the kids anywhere so I'm stuck in the house bored out of my mind. I try to watch tv but its just not interesting to me, I'm not really into web surfing so besides updating my blog theres nothing to do on here, and I spend time with the kids but they go to bed at 8 so that still leaves a long night ahead of me. Any suggestions on things I can do to keep me busy? It just seems like over this last week I've lost some of my willpower and motivation to lose weight and I don't want to start going backwards. Its hard to get my mind in the right state when my life seems so unbalanced right now. I don't like being alone, I don't like being single, I'm lonely but not ready to move forward. In the middle of December I'm out of school for four weeks and I'm really worried about this because then I will have even less to do. What am I going to do with all my time?
What about reading? Or making yourself go out to a bookstore and walk the store, browse the shelves and maybe have some polite conversation?
ReplyDeleteIt gets you out of the house.
What are some of your other interests?
I'm going to the library tomorrow and get some books to read. I also like scrapbooking which I haven't worked on in along time. I can keep busy during the day its evenings that are the hardest. I also like crocheting and cross stitching, my only problem with most of these hobbies are I'm very impatient and all of these things take time to finish which drives me crazy. Like reading a book, I will stay up hours on end just to finish it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a book nerd, so I was going to suggest the same thing :) Maybe pick up some healthy cookbooks to try? That gives you something to read AND a project when you find some you want to try!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the boredom-eating, nights are my weakest moments! You can do it though, just remind yourself that you'll be undoing all the hard work you did all day.
I'm getting ready to go through something similar but my life is so busy that I'm actually looking forward to one less person to take care of. I mean, what is it about men that they are actually an additional person to take care of, and they can't take care of themselves?
ReplyDeleteSorry.
I agree ... go browse bookshelves at a store or library and find a hobby.

you know that impatience thing you talk about? I have that problem. I purposely have been finding things I know will take awhile lately and doing those things, and rather than rush through them, I take great joy in each moment I am doing the task. I realize how cool it is that I am not rushing and am enjoying myself, and it just keeps building on itself. May give it a shot on that cross stitch or whatever that stuff is.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else...find another hobby. If reading works great. Sew, scrapbook. Or rely on friends. Invite them over for game nights or movie nights. Hope you find some more things to do!!

GET BOOKS! I <3 Books. That's what I did all summer, when I had a broken ankle. Well, that, Netflix and I painted a picture once, lol. I just downloaded all the episodes of "Hopkins" and I watch one a night. I'm going to be really upset when episode 7 is over, lol. Hopkins is a medical documentary, except really awesome.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, get Netflix. It's such a good time kill!
Ditto what everyone else has said. I would find another hobby. When I'm not writing, I lean towards my candlemaking, if I'm bored, but there's only so many candles I can make before I start running out of supplies. LOL When all else fails, I turn to reading. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm making a trip to the library in a few minutes to get some books and I may start working on my scrapbooking again. I'm hoping I can make some friends soon to start doing stuff with. On nice days like today I can take the kids to the park and last night we went and rented some movies. Thanks for all the ideas everybody.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am bored I like to read, cook (look for healthy recipes online and try some out), check out diet or running blogs, catch up on facebook, listen to music, watch movies, read scriptures, play games with my kids or sleep! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou'll find something out. It is just hard, I'm sure, at first to get into a familiar groove. Hang in there. ;-)
Thanks Wendy for all the great ideas. I got some books and have been reading which is keeping me busy. I'm sure things will get back to normal around here soon, I hope.
