Halloween Party

Today is going to be another test of my willpower.  We are having a halloween party after photography class and everyone is bringing food.  I've seen the list of food and there is not one healthy thing on it, just things like cookies, brownies, meatballs and chips.  I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this one because there is really nothing I can eat.  I know I'm going to spend my time taking photos and socializing but when it comes time to eat I guess I will just get a very small plate of a few things.  People in my class know I'm trying to lose weight so I will just use that to my advantage.  I don't want them seeing me pigout when I'm suppose to be eating healthy so I will just keep that thought in my head.  We are also having a costume contest and I know I'm not going to win or anything but I'm dressing up as a hillbilly, I will be posting those pics later today.  It should be a fun day overall as long as I don't overeat.

Update:  I did really good with my eating today at the party but I didn't get to take any pictures because it was to dark in the room.  I do have some pictures of me in my costume that I took last night to see how silly I would look and as promised I'm going to post a couple on here.  Here I am as the barefooted hillbilly.
I know I look silly but isn't that the point of dressing up.  It was fun to get out of my comfort zone and socialize with some other college students.

  1. Christina, how about just bringing food for yourself. If your classmates are aware of your goal, they will not be offended I am sure. I just think I hear a hint of worry in your voice and don't want you to come back with an oh no story from the party.

  2. I guess I could take something to snack on instead of eating what is there but I think it will be ok as long as I focus on the party and not the food. I want this to be one more challenge I faced and won because halloween is this weekend, then we have thanksgiving coming up and christmas and all of these are going to be challenges so I need to get strong now.

  3. Bring a veggie tray to share and then maybe a couple of your own favorite healthy snacks. Your class knows you are trying to lose weight, so they will not be offended if you don't try their stuff. They will probably be impressed to see you sticking to your plan, even at a party! ;-) You can do it. None of the things you mentioned others are bringing sounds good enough to ruin your progress for.

  4. Sometimes I imagine eating something bad (like a candy bar or cake or something) and since I have had these bad treats MANY times, I can actually taste them while I am imagining them. Then I remind myself that they don't really taste that great afterall. Super sugary. Might be good for a minute, but then I feel gross and usually want more or something salty to counter the sweet and it is not worth it. Almost ever. I am doing that this week to prep myself for Halloween so that I do not eat candy. The more I think about it, the more the candy sounds gross to me and I truly do not want to eat it. It usually works, so give it a try. ;-)

  5. I was going to say the same thing as Shane G. I do this. My friends know that I am always going to bring my own lunch when we have meetings at school with food that I can't eat. They actually tell me how proud they are that I have that kind of willpower.

  6. I think taking something is a good idea. You can do this through all the holidays too, and not think of it as a failure that you didn't just resist what was offered there. If you like a little snack at a party, it's okay, and better to chew on carrots or something rather than their meatballs and cookies and stuff.
Can't wait to see the costume!

  7. You can do it!!! Just don't fill yourself up on that. Take a plate of a few chips and nibble on them as slowly as you possibly can and you'll be fine. Or like so many others before me said, bring some celery sticks, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, whatever! And munch on those instead :)

  8. Today went really well. There was plenty of unhealthy stuff there. They had fried chicken, pizza, brownies, cookies, cake, candy, potato salad, pasta salad, meatballs and all kinds of other stuff. I took me a bottle of water to drink instead of having soda and I did get a plate of food but all I got was 2 cocktail weinies, 2 meatballs, a couple sunchips, a 1"x1" piece of brownie(I actually broke this off instead of getting a whole one), a small scoop of sweet potatoes topped with pecans and one little scoop of some kind blueberry dessert. It may not sound healthy at all but I'm very proud of myself for resisting everything else and I figured that was my lunch so I did pretty good. Thanks so much for all your wonderful and supportive comments. The weight loss blogging community is what keeps me going.
