Celebrating with Food

Today is going to be one of those days where I see what I'm made of.  In a few hours I have to go to my nephews 5th birthday party.  Like with any other celebration in my family there is going to be lots of food.  They are having hamburger and hotdogs, potato salad and baked beans, chips and who knows what else.  On top of that dessert will be birthday cake, banana pudding, ice cream and whatever else someone brings.  There will not be one healthy thing at this party to eat.

I do plan on taking me a couple bottles of water because I know there will be nothing to drink there but tea and sodas.  I've already had my breakfast this morning and a snack.  How do I plan on getting through this party without pigging out?  Well I'm going to allow myself to eat but very small portions.  Maybe a hamburger, one spoonful of potato salad and one spoonful of baked beans.  When its dessert time I will have a tiny piece of cake.  I know that I can eat this and not feel bad because I can come home and workout to make up for it.  I also plan to spend my time taking lots of pictures to distract me from all the food.  I honestly feel like I have the willpower to make it through this without overeating.  Plus I know I have to come back and report to all of you what I ate so the accountability factor is paying off for me.

  1. so you have spoken it, so it shall be done. That is 90 percent of this journey/battle. Saying what you are going to do in preparation for what the challenges you know lie ahead. Then those victories birth other victories in challenges you didn't know lay ahead. It is all a building on successes kind of thing.

  2. Stick to your plan and you will be fine. I know you can do it. Keeping yourself busy with the camera is a great idea. Have fun.

  3. I think going there with a plan (and maybe some of your own food from home) is what you will help you succeed. I have noticed that when I tell myself what I will eat at a party or restaurant beforehand, I am generally better able to stick to it. The hard part for me is coming home and thinking, "I wish I had had some of ____, so since I didn't I will eat a little cookie (or chips or whatever)." That seems to be when I struggle, after the party. It is hard to not feel like dieting is punishment for me. I love food so very much and sometimes I feel like it's unfair. I am working on overcoming that and teaching myself that this is a choice I made and I am not being punished. Anyway, you are doing so well and I know you can conquer this party! ;-) I have a party to go to tonight as well. I need to make a gameplan too.

  4. YOU CAN DO IT! I'm going out tonight, too. We're going to a restaurant/lounge and there's a set menu. It's between salmon, chicken and veal. I'll get the salmon, but I have a feeling it's going to have a hundred thousand calories anyway, so I'm going to eat half of the salmon and none of the stuff on the side unless it's vegetables. I'm also not going to drink anything but water, diet soda and tea..holding off on the alcohol- it's not necessary.

Anyway, good luck! Let us know how it goes. And thank you for all the supporting comments on my blog!

  5. I think these challenges are good. For me it helps me see where my weakness lies, where when I'm eating at home, there are no chances to test myself. Best of luck!

  6. You are right Shane I went with a plan and thats what I stuck to. I was surprised when I got there they actually had smoked chicken breasts so I ended up eating one of those and a small scoop of potato salad and baked beans. Then for dessert I ate a piece of birthday cake about 1"x1". I also drank 3 bottles of water while I was there so really I didn't do that bad at all.

Tammy I did stay busy with the camera I think I took a couple hundred pictures. They had a horse there for us to ride and my brother has a childs four wheeler and an adult four wheeler so we had all kinds of things to keep us entertained and I love taking pictures of my kids doing things they haven't done before.

Wendy I know how you feel. I can't tell you how many times I have told my husband that it is not fair that I can't just eat whatever I want and I have to exercise the way I do but we have to change that thinking. I would love to be able to eat whatever I want but thats just not in the cards for me and plus how healthy would our bodies be even if we could do that and not gain weight. We are doing what we have to do to live a long, happy, healthy life. Good luck at your party tonight.

You are welcome Raych and good luck at dinner tonight, its great that you are going with a plan just stick to it and you will be fine.

Polar's Mom I have lots of these challenges in my family and with the holiday season getting here its only going to get worse so I better get strong now. I really did good today though so I'm very proud of myself.
